Most of the island was still quiet, but I was already outside watching Lombok sitting across the water like a sleeping giant. The clouds had covered much of the morning sky, but they couldn't hide the light completely.

As the sun begins finding its way through the clouds, it paints the horizon with shades of blue, gold, orange, and soft pink. The colors stretched across the water and changed by the minute, turning an otherwise cloudy morning into something worth getting up for.

That's one of the things I enjoy about photographing the coast, you don't always need perfect weather. Sometimes the clouds actually make the light more interesting. No crowds. No plans. Just 5 AM, a quiet shoreline, and Lombok waking up on the other side of the water.

A pretty good way to start the day. :
