I was still dealing with jet lag when I found myself walking around the city square with a camera in hand. The streets were quiet, the air had cooled off, and the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall was illuminated against a dark, cloud-filled sky.

From this angle, the scale of the building really comes through. The long staircase leads your eye straight toward the entrance, while the lighting picks up the stonework and architectural details along the way.

What I liked most was the atmosphere of the scene. There wasn't much happening around me, which gave me the chance to stand there and take it in without rushing.

Sometimes being wide awake at the wrong hour isn't such a bad thing.
